Communities

Newfoundland and Labrador has a population of just over 500,000 people.  Almost 40% of the population lives in the region surrounding the capital city of St. John's on the east coast of the island, while the remainder live in many other communities throughout the province.

Along with St. John's, some other major centres include the towns of Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor in Central region, Corner Brook on the west coast, and Happy Valley Goose Bay and Labrador City in Labrador.  These large centres provide all the amenities typical of other cities and large towns in Canada, including modern airports, seaports and roads. While many medium and smaller sized communities in the province are considered rural, they all have modern amenities such as clean water, electricity, etc., and are typically well connected with a road and communication systems.
