Common Misconceptions

There are some common misconceptions about Newfoundland and Labrador.  Here are a few that we have heard about:

The Weather is Terrible

Many people think that it is cold and snowy all year round in Newfoundland and Labrador.  This is far from the truth! Yes, it is moderately cold and snowy in winter, but not in the other three seasons.  We have a beautiful spring, warm weather in the summer and a glorious fall season that often brings with it warm sunny days that highlight the changing colours of the trees as they turn from green to yellow, gold and red.

That We Lack Modern Conveniences

Because Newfoundland and Labrador is made up of many small rural communities, people sometimes wonder if these areas have modern services and telecommunications.  Of course they do!  While we do value our rural history and way of life, rural communities in the province today are well-connected through modern roads, telecommunications, and internet service.

That We Live in the Past

Newfoundland and Labrador is a world leader in oil and gas exploration, marine research, post-secondary education, and many other areas. We invite you to come to visit some of our world-class facilities and see for yourself.
